Childhood

Vienna and Marbella

Birgit was born in Vienna and grew up on the Mediterranean coast in Marbella. Private salon showings at Christian Dior and a family devoted to fine tailoring gave her an early, exacting eye for cut, cloth and silhouette.

Training

London and the BBC

In London she earned a degree in journalism, publicity and promotion, then a diploma in Television Direction and Production at the BBC's Television Training Academy. She learned cameras, lighting and studio logistics alongside the language of fashion.

Editorial

Munich and Miss Vogue

Her first post was assistant beauty and teen fashion editor at Condé Nast's Miss Vogue in Munich. Freelance styling for European and American fashion editorials followed.

Hollywood

Los Angeles

A six-week assignment in Los Angeles became a permanent move to Beverly Hills. She worked as photo editor of Transpacific magazine, styled private clients, and joined productions at Paramount, Sony, Disney and Universal.

2001 to 2011

The Bold and the Beautiful

As head costume designer of CBS's international drama, Birgit replaced studio stock with runway loans from Giorgio Armani, Max Mara and Carlo Pignatelli, and fine jewelry from Chopard, Damiani and Harry Winston. She designed each wardrobe around the character. The result: three consecutive Daytime Emmy Awards, in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

On set, Soap Opera Digest called her the show's “real Eric Forrester.”

Couture and the Oscars

Her couture house grew from the same discipline: gowns that hold their shape under lights and lenses. In 2012 she realized and fitted the Red Carpet Green Dress worn by Missi Pyle at the 84th Academy Awards, made from organic peace silk and natural dyes. In 2023 she designed Victoria Summer's wedding gown.

Giving back

After a family health challenge, Birgit staged the 2005 Award of Hope runway show at the Beverly Hilton with the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful. It raised more than $800,000 for City of Hope, which gave her its Circle of Hope Award. In 2006 she founded The Three Doves Foundation for disaster relief and medical care.
